In the Netherlands, more than 120,000 children have asthma and this number will increase to over 150,000 in the next years. For these children a correct perception of symptoms and an adequate response to symptoms are necessary to obtain good self-management and also provide correct information to their doctors. But children fail to respond in time when adverse effects occur.
Ap.Oe is a monitoring system that consist of a smart-textile undershirt and a mobile application. The system uses high-end SEMG technology to evaluate airflow limitation during sleep. As it monitors the children whilst sleeping, it’s effortless and allows continuous assessment of symptoms over a period of multiple hours.
The core technology of this application is a high-end wearable platform, equipped with various sensors of which the ExG (ECG/EMG/EEG/…) amplifier is among the best available at this moment. The amplifier specifications allow for measuring the electrical activity of the diaphragm, the main respiratory muscle, located just below the lungs and heart. Also, the system was specifically designed for use with dry or textile electrodes, which enables wearable applications in hospital as well as in domestic use.
